 Cadel suits Orygen Youth Health

Cadel Evans, winner of the 2011 Tour de France, ditched his yellow jersey and donned a suit and tie to ride in the final of Orygen Youth Health’s corporate team cycling event Suit Up and Ride on Friday, 25th November 2011.

Cadel joined the Grocon team to race against the Bike Force Team, which was joined by Matt Goss, in the finals. “Gossie” and the Bike Force boys took out the honours to win Suit Up and Ride for 2011.

Earlier in the morning of Suit Up and Ride, Matt Tilley from Fox FM challenged Cadel to a “Champ vs Chump” race. Over a two week period, Fox FM listeners were encouraged to donate to Orygen Youth Health to give Matt Tilley a chance at knocking off the “champ” over a 5km race. Orygen Youth Health has been overwhelmed by the support from the community for this event. Donations through Fox reached an astounding $120,000.

In the end, Matt Tilley prevailed prompting Cadel to ask after the ride “Does that make me a chump?”.

As another Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong, might have put it, it wasn’t just about the bike. Cadel Evans’ wife, pianist and singer, Chiara Passerini joined the Orygen Youth Health Choir to entertain the crowd. A difficult act to follow, but the gorgeous, ARIA-award winning Clare Bowditch ably took on that task performing a fabulous set and even inviting the OYH Choir to join her on stage.

Bike riders were fuelled with gourmet delights from the Ernst & Young Maggie Beer Gourmet BBQ, run by Ernst & Young volunteers, selling gourmet sausages and delicious Maggie Beer ice cream.

Other winners on the day were:
Fastest Mixed: AFL
Fastest Women's: Mental Health First Aid
Best dressed: CHE "Recyclers" and the Royal Melbourne Health Orthopaedic & Trauma Nurses
"Take the Train" Award, a nice way of saying "Last": OYH Heels on Wheels

Orygen Youth Health would like to thank the following sponsors for their support and of course, the 56 corporate teams who donated and suited up, in some amazing outfits, to join us at Suit Up and Ride: City of Melbourne, Waterfront City, NewQuay, MMG and Frank Health Insurance.

Thank you also to Mercury Creative Management for managing our social media campaing for us: http://mercurycreativemanagement.com/

A Message from Professor McGorry

A sincere thank you to all who supported Suit Up and Ride this year, either by sponsoring, putting a team in, donating prizes or donating through Fox FM's Champ Vs Chump". Your contribution will directly help OYH to help young people with a mental illness. We have been overwhelmed with the support from the community. Once again, thank you Melbourne and we look forward to your support next year.
